Mosaic is the art of creating images with an assemblage of small pieces of colored glass, stone, or other materials. It may be a technique of decorative art, an aspect of interior decoration, or of cultural and spiritual significance as in a cathedral. Small pieces, normally roughly cubic, of stone or glass of different colors, known as tesserae, (diminutive tessellae), are used to create a pattern or picture Viewers should be aware that these photos are viewed by a wide variety of folks and inappropriate comments shall be removed forthwith “Copyright © Chocovoices Any reproduction, publication, modification, of any work contained herein for any use, personal or commercial, without my prior written permission is strictly prohibited. 11 September 1993 (Terence McKenna) [FULL]

alchemicalarchives.blogspot.com I’ll let Terence give you the name of this talk. 11 September 1993 In this lecture, Terence McKenna talks about the tragic situation we humans have placed ourselves in, and ways in which the boundry dissolution effects of psychedelic medicines can possibly save our species from what appears to be a certain extinction. . . . “What the psychedelic experience does, really, is it stretches the envelope of the imaginable.” “It seems to me that culture, at least this culture, is a shabby lie.” “We have the tools that would allow us to sculpt paradise, but we have the reflexes and value systems of anthropoid apes of some sort. . . . You don’t get serial killers in the chipmunk population.” “We live at the end of a thousand year binge on the philosophical position known as materialism, in its many guises. And the basic message of materialism is that world is what it appears to be, a thing composed of matter, and pretty much confined to its surface.” “We’re in, essentially, a tragic situation. A tragic situation is a catastrophe when you know it.” For approximately 500 years [sciences] argument for its pre-eminence was the beautiful toys that it could create: aircraft, railroads, global economies, television, spacecraft. But that is a fool’s argument for truth! I mean, that’s after all how a medicine show operates, you know: the juggler is so good, the medicine must be even better! This is not an entirely rational way to proceed. Images: Oculus

Why mosaic?

Article by Ana Cordos

Why mosaic?

Mosaic is not just a way to put tiles together, is also a way to innovate, to discover and, in the end, to dream. What will be life without it?

Even reinterpretation the old ideas in your own simple way can be a great achievement. And if you think it’s hard, try again and again and again.

Aren’t you bored by your own room, your kitchen, your office, your home, generally speaking? Aren’t you bored by all these grey things that surround us? If yes, I have a proposal. Try to bring colors into your life. We can’t change much, but at least this we can do: change the little things that surround us. Try to do something creative. Decorate your home in your own way. Find some colored tiles, cut them in small pieces and start to do whatever it will come, just do it yourself. A small picture, a frame, a tabletop, a medallion, something colored. And in the end, you will find it entertaining, bracing and rewarding.

Doing even small decorative mosaics for you or your friends can give you the feeling you didn’t pass trough life just like that, but letting something behind you. That will makes you a special human being. And in the end, this is all that matters.

Mosaic is the art of creating images by putting together small, and if it’s possible, colored pieces of tiles, glass, stone, ceramic. From the earlier times, people used different kind of materials to do mosaics. Most of them did not survive, but what did survive amaze us today.

This form of art didn’t lose its glamour till nowadays.

It’s well known that the center of Roman mosaic art is Ravvena. And even today it keeps the tradition alive. We can find greatest mosaic works all over the world. Those are our signature, through times, that God made us rational, creative and innovating beings.

I don’t pretend we can compare with that great people who made history, but at least, to try not to let them be forgotten.

Mosaic is another form of art, among the others, that brings joy in peoples’ life. Let your imagination free. Patience and love is all you need to do it. Once made, it will capture all the attention from everyone, it will bring joy, beauty and elegance in your home. It will bring out your personality and your free spirit.

Why a mosaic?

Because is more than a drawing or a picture in a frame,it is the power of man against the rough material.

It’s an adventure, a journey from the very first thought to the final act-bringing the hard stone to life.

One of the most distinct features of Copacabana Beach are the wave-shaped mosaic sidewalks along the beach lane. When Copacabana Beach went a major renovation and a big part of the beach was reclaimed to duplicate Avenida Atlantica, a large island between the two lanes. Landscape premiere landscape designer Burle Marx was invited to design the stone mosaics of these new sidewalks. He used black, white and red stones to design a geometric carpet that covers the whole extent of the avenue. The results can be better appreciated from above.
