Google TechTalks June 29, 2006 George Wolberg www-cs.engr.ccny.cuny.edu ABSTRACT The photorealistic modeling of large-scale scenes, such as urban structures, requires a fusion of range sensing technology and traditional digital photography. In this talk, we describe a system that integrates multiview geometry and automated 3D registration techniques for texture mapping 2D images onto 3D range data. The 3D range scans and the 2D photographs are respectively used to generate a pair of 3D models of the scene. Cana is now mostly Muslim. We also drove past Nazareth, which was a small insignificant town in Jesus’ day, and now is mostly an Arab community. Arab homes have flat roofs, and they rarely finish off the houses. The top of the house often has bars sticking up so they can later add a floor, usually for the son in the family to move to when he marries. Arab Israeli’s do not have to serve in the military like Jewish Israeli’s do because Israel doesn’t want to force them to fight other Arab’s. The Church of the Annunciation is in Nazareth. It is a huge church that is totally dedicated to Mary, Jesus’ mother. We drove through the Jezreel Valley and past Megiddo (Armageddon), where archaeologists have uncovered the remains of more than 20 historical periods dating from 4000 BC to after AD 500. In the New Testament, in the book of Revelation, Armageddon is named as the place where the gathering of the forces will begin and the last great battle will be fought and the forces of good triumph over the forces of evil just before Christ’s return to earth (Revelation 16:13-16). twitter.com [Photoshooting of my summer vacation] Park Guell was commissioned by Eusebi Güell who wanted to create a stylish park for Barcelona aristocracy. It was designed by the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí and built in the years 1900 to 1914. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Works of Antoni Gaudí”. The park contains amazing stone structures, stunning tiling and fascinating buildings. You can see from this picture the Gaudi dragon fountain that is at the entrance to Guell park. This dragon is adorned in beautiful coloured tiling and there is something rather hypnotic and magical about it.Gaudi was strongly influenced by natural shapes and used them in his work. At the top of Guell park is a terraced area where you get a wonderful view of the park and of Barcelona City. Here you will find multi-coloured tiled mosaic seats as shown in this picture. The vibrant colours of the tiles are truly breathtaking. Park Guell also has a small house in the park which Gaudi lived in at one stage. The house has now been converted into a museum and contains interesting furniture also designed by Gaudi.
